Science Tokyo Liberal Arts Library
Introduction
Science Tokyo Liberal Arts Library is a reading and studying space that
holds approximately 27,000 volumes of rare books and materials on the humanities,
books by professors of the Institute for Liberal Arts, and more recent
literary works, most of which are available for reading and borrowing.
In addition, there are approximately 500 domestic and foreign films on
DVD and Blu-ray, which can be borrowed or viewed in the library.

Opening Hours
Monday to Friday
10:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
*The library is closed on national holidays and for the New Year holiday
(December 27–January 4).
*The library is closed from 1:15p.m. to 2:15p.m. during spring, summer
and winter vacation.
For other days the library is closed (temporary closure), it will be announced
via X(Twitter), HP, and at the entrance of the library.
Eligibility
The library is open to students, faculty, and staff of Science Tokyo.
Borrowing Materials
Please bring the materials you would like to borrow to the counter and
present your IC card issued by Science Tokyo(student ID or staff ID card).
Fill out the necessary information in the library log when borrowing for
the first time. The loan period and conditions are as follows:
Undergraduate students, staff, and emeritus professors
Maximum 5 items per month
Graduate students, research students, and faculty
Maximum 10 items per month
Maximum number of items may include up to two DVDs marked as “Lendable”,
which can be borrowed.
Renewal
Renewal is only possible if the item has not been reserved by someone else,
and it may only be renewed once for a period of two weeks. Please request
renewal via e-mail or telephone or in person at the library counter.
Returning Materials
Please return the borrowed items to the counter during library hours. There
is a returns' box at
the side entrance of the library. Please use this for returns outside of
library hours.
Viewing Videos
Only DVDs and Blu-ray Discs marked “Lendable” can be borrowed. All other
items can only be viewed in the library.
Please bring the video(s) to the library counter before viewing.
Headphones, extension cords, and branch cables are also available for use.
Please be considerate of others and keep the volume down if viewing on
the large-screen TV without headphones.
Food
Food is prohibited inside the library. Non-alcoholic drinks are allowed.

FAQs
Q: How do I search for a book?
A: You may ask for help at the counter, providing the staff with the book
title or the author’s name. You may also use the Excel “Search” function
in the “Book Search” section of our homepage.
Q: How do I borrow books?
A: Bring the book you would like to borrow at the counter and present an
IC card (student ID or staff ID) issued by Science Tokyo . A person can
borrow up to five items for one month.
Q: Can I return books when the library is closed?
A: Yes. There is a returns' box at the side entrance of West Bldg.9,East
Tower. Please use this for returns outside of library hours
Q: Can I eat or drink in the library?
A: Food is prohibited in the library. Non-alcoholic drinks are allowed.
Q: Who can use the copy machine?
A: As the copy machine in the library is for business purposes only, faculty
members who wish to use it may ask the librarian.
Q: Can I watch the large-screen TV without headphones?
A: Please use headphones when there are other users in the library. Note
that the library has headphones, extension cords, and branch cables (for
shared viewing) that you may borrow.
Q: Can I use the wireless LAN?
A: Yes, you can access the Science Tokyo wireless LAN in the library.
Privacy Policy
The Science Tokyo Liberal Arts Library pledges to comply with all laws
and regulations concerning personal information and shall protect the privacy
of all users.
Personal Information
Collection
The Liberal Arts Library will ask for the following personal information
when taking out books or other items:
Name, student/staff registration number, e-mail address, and phone number
Purpose
Personal information collected at the Liberal Arts Library used for purposes
such as contacting those who have not returned borrowed materials on time.
Third Party Disclosure
The Liberal Arts Library will not disclose any personal information to
a third party unless:
Prior consent of the user has been received.
Requested by the police or a government office.
Required by law.
Disclosure and Amendment
The library staff will be happy to oblige if you need to share, amend,
or delete your personal information.
